De Smet, South Dakota
From our oven to your table — fresh-baked goods, a thoughtfully stocked pantry, and coffee poured with care, right here on 4th Street.
Our Story
De Smet Mercantile & Coffeehouse was born from a simple conviction: a community deserves a place that feels as good as it looks and tastes. We started as a modest corner shop, and over the years we've grown into something that still surprises regulars — a full mercantile with a curated grocery selection, a bakery that rises before dawn, and a coffeehouse corner that smells like Sunday morning every single day.
Nothing here is mass-produced or rushed. Our breads are mixed, shaped, and baked on-site. Our coffee is roasted to bring out the notes that make each sip worth slowing down for. And our shelves are stocked with the kinds of items you'd actually want to find — not just the kinds you'd expect to pass through on an aisle.
What We Offer
Every category is thoughtfully curated — nothing filler, everything with a reason to be here.
Sourdough, focaccia, sweet rolls, and seasonal pastries — all mixed and baked in-house each morning. If it's on the shelf, it's still warm.
A curated selection of pantry staples, snacks, kitchen essentials, and local finds — the kind of inventory you'd actually enjoy browsing.
Espresso drinks, pour-overs, specialty teas, and house-made syrups — all crafted to turn your daily cup into something worth lingering over.
Birthday cakes, holiday pies, catering platters — we take special requests seriously and build them with the same care as everything else.
The Coffeehouse
Our coffeehouse corner is designed for the moments between things — the morning before the rush, the lunch break that stretches just a little longer, the afternoon catch-up that turns into an hour. Good coffee tastes better when there's no hurry.
